Gift inspiration

http://www.designedandmade.co.uk/shop/embroidered-and-embellished-cushion-14

This cushion here is a lovely gift, the embroiday really caught my eye, I also like tea repeated print of flowers as it sets back and let's the embroidered bird stand out never more, which gives a sense of layers and space to the cushion with a hint of depth.

Here I have come across these gorgeous gift cards which I come across whilst I was looking at the blog referenced at the top of the page. I have chosen a selection of these Christmas cards as I liked the way the designer has used various prints and surface patterns to build up a design or shape which represent a Christmas theme. The cards are bright and eye catching with the use of bold vivid colours. I also liked how the cards arnt precise, for example the colour doesn't stay instidr the lines, this gives a fun and lively effect.

What made me thing?

In this weeks lecture I found this slide the most interesting because of the way in which it brought the whole modelled look to reality, I wasn't aware that this went on and how much these images that surround us have been edited to give a false look which we think is normality. It is quite annoying that we are given this false advertising look which makes real people unhappy about themselves.

This clip here shows how women are can be changed using photoshop to make them look serial.

Mass Production

The Realities of mass production is that cheep items that are mass produced come from poorer countries which there workers with work for cheep labour. It is wrong and unfair however it is up to higher people to stop this not us, They work long shifts if factories without and breaks and for next to nothing in return. This link is a video clip which shows a good documentary that explains this problem;

Copyright Issues

Here are some cases of copy right;

http://internetmarketing201.blogspot.co.uk/2012/02/h-copyright.html

Here on the left is a piece of work created by an artist which then the company H&M took and copied the design/slogan and printed it onto door mats, pillows and towels to then sell as there own and got caught copyrighting this product.

http://rachaeltaylordesigns.blogspot.co.uk/2012/07/strikingly-similar-design.html

In this image above it shows another case of copyright which was by Marks & Spencer, they had taken a designers print and used it on items of clothing as you can see in the image above.

Copyright Issues

I learnt from this weeks lecture that Copyright is a very serious matter and if you get caught Copyrighting or Plagiarising someone else's work as your own you can get into some serious trouble. So always make sure your using your own ideas and creating your own work!

Ethics and Environmental Issues

Ethics
• ‘1 [usually treated as plural] moral principles that govern a person’s
behaviour or the conducting of an activity: medical ethics also enter into
the question’ (Oxford English Dictionary)

• Critical thinking
• ‘the objective analysis and evaluation of an issue in order to form a
judgement: professors often find it difficult to encourage critical thinking
among their students’ (Oxford English Dictionary)

• Objective
• ‘1(of a person or their judgement) not influenced by personal feelings or
opinions in considering and representing facts: historians try to be
objective and impartial’ (Oxford English Dictionary)

Printing onto fabric

I began each peice by fixing the fabric down so it didn't move.
I then places my screen into and added the mixture to the screen and using a squeegee I evened out the mixture.
Which left me with a print into the fabric like this, I waited for it to dry and them put them in the steamer for ten minute.
This fixed the dyes into the fabrics as you can see here;

Target Audience

One thing everyone must do when finding their target audience or mark is to 'analysis'. Analysis a group of customers or your product to fit a certain age group or audience of customers, so you know what they what, how they want it and who will want it.

Judging a Target Audience

Here are a few things that should be considered when choosing an appropriate target audience which i found on this website;
  • Who buys your product?
  • What media do they use most often?
  • Are they predominately female or male?
  • What's the general attitude toward the product or service?
  • From what age group?
  • Education level?
  • What are their spending habits?
  • What are their product needs?
  • What's their geographic location? Local? Regional?
  • Lifestyle indicators (home, automobile ownership, for example)?

Target Audience

"Understanding the target audience allows you (or your copywriter) to craft a message that will appeal directly to these consumers, delivered through the media they use and in a language they speak.
A good place to start is by creating a profile of the target Target Audience audience. This provides a basis for the media buying decisions in your consumer advertising campaign.
Consider the consumer base for your product or service—the target market. What are the common demographic, psychographic, and geographic characteristics? Use that information to draw up a profile that includes, at minimum
  • Gender (75% male, 25% female, for example)
  • Age (age 25-54)
  • Education (some college), and
  • Location (within a 50-mile radius of Any town metropolitan area).
  • http://avenueright.com/entries/75/10-questions-that-help-define-a-target-audience
  • Here I have shown the research which really tells you what exactly a target audience is and what to consider when finding out which target audience a product will find into.

Target audience

Definition of Target Audience;

Particular group of people, identified as the intended recipient of an advertisement or message. Also called target Population

Here is one of my finals for embroidery all stretched and mounted.

Koda trace

Here is the Koda trace that I created ready to go on my screen to the be covered in a light sensitive emulation and exposed to light. The blacked out parts have to be dark so the light doesn't pass through.

Screen printing

This is my screen that I have exposed ready to print with.

Printing

Here shows my print screams being exposed to light so the stencil transfers the print onto the fabric using light transfer.

Embroidery sample

Here is a hand embroidary sample which took me a long time to do, I used the techniques that I had previously learnt to create a similar effect as the drawing I was working from.

Dye samples

Here are all my dye sample that I had created by experimenting with mixing different dyes up as seeing which fabrics worked the best to dye with.

Samples

These samples here have been created usings special fabrics that dissolves in water and leaves you with the stitching.

Cv layouts

I am searching different layouts and ways in which to set the page or pages out of a cv.

In the dye lab

Here is a picture of me working as a team to mix dyes in the fume carbonate, we mixed a total of 6 different dyes and recorded there process.  I then created samples of the dyes using peices of different weighted fabrics.

Research

Here I have collected a lot of research which relates to embroidary I found these in different books and magazines and I found them quite inspiring as there are so many products that embroidary is used on or in.

Cutting and stitching into fabric sample

Here I cut a part out of my fabric and then stitched into the hole and out, after I had down this a few times on the sewing machine I felt it had have a lace effect to these areas that I had built up of thread.

Here I cut a part out of my fabric and then stitched into the hole and out, after I had down this a few times on the sewing machine I felt it had have a lace effect to these areas that I had built up of thread.

Bonded appliqué

Here I used a unusual material that I had never herd of before called bondaweb, this was a paper which had a rough side and a smooth side. The rough side had to be face down into a piece  of fabric and then ironed on which allowed the glue to be released and it to stick to the fabric. I then cut my design out and pealed the bondaweb off the fabric, though it left a layer on the fabric so then next I ironed that peice of fabric onto some calico which made it stick. I worked into the study to make it look and feel like my drawing that I was working from.

Shadow appliqué samples

I loved this technique as I think it looks so fine and delicate just like the leaves that I was trying to portray onto the fabric. I created a negative and positive of the image however I found the positive to be more interesting as this was were I had cut away the calico which was behind the translucent fabric, around the leave.

Reverse appliqué

This is my reverse appliqué sample and I have created a big flower and used the petals to experiment with the reverse appliqied technique. I used three fabric the top one being calico the next was a yellow pattrened cotton and the third was 100% silk, I enjoyed this texhnique and decided to give it another go using more fabrics.

Machine vouching samples

This technique creates a hand embroidered effect using a sewing machine although it is realy quick and easy to do.

Living north magazine

These glass's are quite an unusual style which was the reason I was drawn to them. The use of design onto glass creates a unique look and on these grasses the delicate butterfly design has been created using a fine linear line, however the rich red colour that has been used to give a bright and vibrant atmosphere which made these more indevidual.

Living north magazine

I have selected to put this page from the living north magazine as I felt the surface design in this image is very festive. The designs relate to a seasonal winter christmass theme and the bright red reflects the seasonal influence, the printed design shows a winter robin and a snowflake which are animals and natural forms that you see around that time of the year.
