Embroidery sample

Here is a hand embroidary sample which took me a long time to do, I used the techniques that I had previously learnt to create a similar effect as the drawing I was working from.

Dye samples

Here are all my dye sample that I had created by experimenting with mixing different dyes up as seeing which fabrics worked the best to dye with.

Samples

These samples here have been created usings special fabrics that dissolves in water and leaves you with the stitching.

Cv layouts

I am searching different layouts and ways in which to set the page or pages out of a cv.

In the dye lab

Here is a picture of me working as a team to mix dyes in the fume carbonate, we mixed a total of 6 different dyes and recorded there process.  I then created samples of the dyes using peices of different weighted fabrics.

Research

Here I have collected a lot of research which relates to embroidary I found these in different books and magazines and I found them quite inspiring as there are so many products that embroidary is used on or in.

Cutting and stitching into fabric sample

Here I cut a part out of my fabric and then stitched into the hole and out, after I had down this a few times on the sewing machine I felt it had have a lace effect to these areas that I had built up of thread.

Cutting and stitching into fabric sample

Here I cut a part out of my fabric and then stitched into the hole and out, after I had down this a few times on the sewing machine I felt it had have a lace effect to these areas that I had built up of thread.

Bonded appliqué

Here I used a unusual material that I had never herd of before called bondaweb, this was a paper which had a rough side and a smooth side. The rough side had to be face down into a piece  of fabric and then ironed on which allowed the glue to be released and it to stick to the fabric. I then cut my design out and pealed the bondaweb off the fabric, though it left a layer on the fabric so then next I ironed that peice of fabric onto some calico which made it stick. I worked into the study to make it look and feel like my drawing that I was working from.

Shadow appliqué samples

I loved this technique as I think it looks so fine and delicate just like the leaves that I was trying to portray onto the fabric. I created a negative and positive of the image however I found the positive to be more interesting as this was were I had cut away the calico which was behind the translucent fabric, around the leave.

Reverse appliqué

This is my reverse appliqué sample and I have created a big flower and used the petals to experiment with the reverse appliqied technique. I used three fabric the top one being calico the next was a yellow pattrened cotton and the third was 100% silk, I enjoyed this texhnique and decided to give it another go using more fabrics.

Machine vouching samples

This technique creates a hand embroidered effect using a sewing machine although it is realy quick and easy to do.

Living north magazine

These glass's are quite an unusual style which was the reason I was drawn to them. The use of design onto glass creates a unique look and on these grasses the delicate butterfly design has been created using a fine linear line, however the rich red colour that has been used to give a bright and vibrant atmosphere which made these more indevidual.

Living north magazine

I have selected to put this page from the living north magazine as I felt the surface design in this image is very festive. The designs relate to a seasonal winter christmass theme and the bright red reflects the seasonal influence, the printed design shows a winter robin and a snowflake which are animals and natural forms that you see around that time of the year.

"Surface and textile design collections for the apparel, home textiles and paper goods industries." http://www.printsourcenewyork.com/about_us.html

Here are some images of the trade show layout, you can see that the layout of the prints are very different on both images which is why i have selected these two, I wanted to show the different layouts out the designers prints, as you can see the top photo the fabric prints are in bundles because of the mass of print that they have, where as the bottom image shows a more ordered and the designs seem to be in more of an order.

Trade shows

Premiere Vision, Paris,
18-20th Febuary 2014,
This trade show is based around fabrics and designs within the show.
http://www.premierevision.com/en/Agenda/Our-shows-throughout-the-world

Satu Maaranen
These images are screen shots off the Premiere Vision Trade Show website above, I felt that these images which have been portrayed by Satu Maaranen at the previous trade show last year. she created a collection of clothing which had an unusual surface design as you look closely, she has portrayed this surface design onto the backdrop behind the clothing as it enlarges and enhances the detail on the fabric, which brings in the the viewers attention.

Trend Intustry

The Bloom Magazine, This Trend magazine portrays a variety of photographer work, I find these magazines very influential as there differ so much for example there are photographs of flowers, people, nature etc.
These image bellow are three images which I feel link together as they have all been created using a different technique however the use of different flowers makes each one individual. I think the technique of freezing flowers is so unusual as the clear ice allows you to see the fine delicate detail. I took these images of this website; and this website portrays all the images from the bloom magazine issue 21 that I selected.

The trends industry

This magazine here is a well known trend magazine which specifies in the children's clothing department. It hold a unique range of styles and looks for the younger generation.  Here is a few pages that I found more interesting; ........
.... These children's wear styles are very autumn and winter based seasons and I picked up on this by the colour choices that have been used. The surface design is quiet simple although I like the way they have combined a basic and original spot and stripe together with a check/ tar ten style dress as these are more winter patterns and the basic design give a simple but effective modern yer tradition look towards the children.

Trends of the industry

These two pages are so influencial, this magazine specifies in various fabrics. here I would personally say the fabrics are very seasonal and represent the summer and spring season as the flowers begin to bloom, I also think the rich vivid colours suggest at a bright vibrant day. What I like about this page is it shows what the patterns on the fabric has been inspired by and also what the fabric looks like as a garment.
