"S/S 14 women's catwalks: fancy textile analysis

By Ruth Greany, WGSN, 17 October 2013
Designers are making brave textile choices with experimental new techniques, patterns and yarns creating exciting new fashion fabrics for spring/summer 2014."

Statement jacquards
"Formal jackets and outerwear pieces adopt the fancy tweeds highlighted in the Première Vision reports for spring/summer 2014. Abstract geometrics are created in multi-coloured fil-coupé jacquards, satin/sateen structures, extra-weft patterns and double-faced jacquards. Mix silk, cotton and metallic yarns for added textural effects."

I have selected these jackets from the WGSN website, I selected these images as I found the surface design patterns so diverse. Each image has a different colour pallet and a unique pattern, these jackets  are for the spring/summer season and i knew this from the use of brighter colours, lighter and thinner fabric and exotic patterns.

"Feminine 40s: womenswear capsule trend

By Calum Harvey, WGSN, 30 September 2013
1940s day dresses and beachwear are revisited in this flirty, feminine trend. Sheer and delicate layers are worn over retro swim and sportswear-inspired undergarments." (FromWGSN Website)

Here I have selected this vintage design on the swimwear of women, I have selected this particular image as I found that the fashion from years ago is slowly coming back round. The black and white photograph depicts and exaggerates this vintage feel, I also think the hair style, sunglasses and presentation of the women represents the 1980's period. This piece of swimwear was fashionable then and because of the trend industry this has been recorded as the vintage style.

Muted Felt; Emerging Womenswear textiles trend

SLIGHTLY BRUSHED

This image here is a trend out of the muted felt section on the website above, I have selected these two images out of the page as I personally felt I was drawn to this coat. This page is about the soft cream/ white fabrics which has been used as this is fine and delicate however they look warm and the fabric has a slight woolly texture to it, because of the fabric as you can see from the closer image it looks as though it has a fluffy surface to  it. The whole page had looked at the same fabric however there were many different styles of coats created from this, I selected the top image as I felt the Garment shape was more interesting to me and the design was more simple however the way the photograph had been put together gave and modern look and drawn my eye to this image.

This gorgeous peice here is something I found on the british craft website, i come across this amazing peice of art in th egallery section. This peice has been made out of glass and the designer maker has used various different coloured glass to create the unique colours of the birds feathers. I think the lovely mark making that has been created on the breast suggests to me that she is wanting to bring this part to the veiwers attention, just like the red breast of a robin.

paper chase gift collection

http://www.paperchase.co.uk/online-services/christmas-cards+wrap/page/xmascardswrap
Here are some specific seasonal greatings cards, they represent the christmas season through colour, composition and what it is that on the cards. the designer has used more obvious christmas forms which are always seen as a christmas feature. I have chosen these cards as they represent the variation of cards even if they are targeting the same purpose/season.

Print Pattern Blog

http://printpattern.blogspot.co.uk/

This image is off the print pattern blog which posts lots of different creative crafts and gifts. these gift wraps are fun and lively and are all different patterns, with different colour pallets. I think this selection of papers are more feminine because of the colours used and the fine delicate detail that has been printed onto the papers.

Printing with the natural form.

Love these cards that have been created using the raw form of leaves, they create a unique look and have inspired me within my practice. I like how this printing technique captures the full detail on the leaves and creates a negative transfer which leaves the vains of the leaves stand out more than the rest. It creates a lovely delicate texture on the cards and really brings them to life, I also like how the maker has used a variety of unusual colours.

History museum of Hartlepool

These are my two of my drawing sheets from the museum. I drew from photographs that I took of the historical objects.

My work bay looking busy

Mollie Makes inspiration

Come across this in the Molly makes magazine and found that these little makes are great ideas and easy to do. Make lovely hand made animents and great gift Ideas I love how they give off a warm glow.

Sketching keys

All sketched out and ready to be worked into, I decided to select keys as they are all different and there are so many different sizes and shapes. I also like how this little peice of metle can have a meaning depending on wether it's just feeling sercure or an opening, however a key could also be something less obvious like a new beginning for someone.

Paint samples

Been and collected plenty of paint samples for my sketch book.

Cloth, Paper, Scissors

I have chose this study to show on my blog as I found the surface design interesting. I personally liked the way in which the media and materials used stand up off the card and make it feel three dimensional. I also like the stitching that has been used to create detail in the study, as it brings past forward and sets others back, the use of different fabrics has also exaggerated parts as some are more textured than others.

Drawing set

This is my drawing set final study, I feel that I really considered the layout, scale and format. So that I redirected the best possible outcome, I used different media in areas to make parts sand out more than others.

Progressive greetings

These greeting cards have been designed by Claire Louise, I feel that she makes these greeting cards pretty and it looks like she has used wet media to create these designs as there are layers of paint which stand up off the card which creates textiles and a surface making the way in which she has applied the paint indevidual to her. Her style feels very feminine and pretty with the delicate and use of florals in her designs, she also uses more pastel colours which exaggerates the femininity to.

Progressive Greetings

This greeting card was taken from the magazine above, I selected this card as I liked the simplicity of the design. The plane white card with the circle cut out to my suggests a window and the birds are sat on the washing line, I think the different colour birds work well as the stand out from the pure white backdrop. I this this card is quite diverse in that way that it has no statement on the front making it usefull for a number of events.

Progressive Geeetings

This magazine had many lovely gifts in, when i come across this image of an arrangement of different styled paper gift wrap and bags. I think the composition of the picture is very ordered because of the way that each individual wrapping paper has been rolled and the stood up so that it shows enough of each pattern, giving the viewer an idea of the variety of the patterns that the designer maker can produce. I also think the way that the gift bags have been arranged in front of the wrap works well as some patterns are the same or their are sections of the wrapping paper pattern on the gift bag making them connect. The colours used are more feminine and the surface design pattern exaggerates this, the girly design has been created with shapes of block colours which makes the designs feel more flat. I think all these aspects create a big audience from kids to women it fits a wide range.

Jab

http://www.jab-uk.co.uk/en/collections/fabrics/four_seasons/Provence/Provence.html

What I likes about this jab image of their summer 2013 collection was the fact that everything matched together. I like how if the patterns ain't the same but everything has the same colour pallet. I like how the designer had used florals and stripes creating a fun and bright summer atmosphere.

Tracy Kendall

Love this monochromatic wallpaper. The repeated design works well because it is a smaller scale pattern so you can't really tell that it is repeated so often Untill you look closely.

Flea market drawings

I like the different types of clocks the group had collected, so I aranged them in a symmetrical way and used a coffe coloured back wash to suggest at the oldness of the objects.

Liberty

http://www.liberty.co.uk/fcp/categorylist/dept/tana-lawn-classic

I like this little picture of the original fabrics, as it shows the stages before they are made into a product. I thing it is a good image to have on a website as it shows that there is care in the production of the product from start to finish.

Topshop

Front cover of the magazine:
Posting this page as I liked the formal look, I thing the costal backdrop works very as it shows the relaxed and calm atmosphere. The suit looks very smart and the tarted pattern gives a important fashionable look.

Flea Market purchases

Collected some lovely silver old fashioned spoons and a gorgeous tea cup and saucer. I think the floral surface design on this set is very feminine and detailed, the colour used is so rich and fresh. I also like the fine gold rim around the edges of crockery, as gives a better finish.

TIGI BAG

Unique styles shopper, found that this was different from the rest and liked the way in which the bag is built up of modeling photographs. Creating a photographic reference to the shop.

More From ELLE Magazine

This is another image out of the ELLE Magazine which I wanted to include as I just simply thought it looked nice. I found that the girl was enhancing the beauty of the neutral coloured dress as it is a soft peach colour dress with a ditsy black and which floral. This to me makes it feel monochromatic as the colours are more shuttle. Also I liked the style of what you can see of the dress and feel it is very feminie and flattering.

Topshop magazine

This little composition really caught my eye. Love the variety of sized images and way they have been place critically on the picture plan. I also like the mixture of different scenes and catwalk shoots making each image different.

Flea market

All our buys from the flea market.

Flea market

Morning at the flea market, found some unusual objects here.

More ELLE Inspiration

I find this page really interesting and it has inspired me which is why I wanted to include it in my blog, I mainly liked the composition of the indevidual images as they have been trimmed down. The shape has exaggerated the figures of the girl as these to are very tall and thin. The different styles of dresses and theme are almost like season as they are different colours which relate to the weather at that time, for example the first image I would say suggests summer as it is a bright floral design. I feel that each dress give a powerful stamens of a season.

ELLE magazine

Found this gorgeous page in the ELLE Magazine, I like the way in which the lovely flowing pink dresses look so fine and delicate almost like bloom petals. I think the green gardens that the photograph's have been taken in exaggerates the summer season and the bright pinks and greens work realy well together as they compliment each other. The images are of two different styles dresses however they are made from what looks like the same colour and fabric making them so similar. Because of this the photographs work well together and the way they have been portrayed on the same page allows you to compare the similarities and little differences.

Lecture notes and print outs

Getting organised and printing out the power point presentation. Along with arranging my notes that I have made so they all fit together, and it shows week by week lectures.

Laura Ashley

http://www.lauraashley.com/cushions/peony-garden-embroidered-cushion/invt/3569979
I have selected this cushion by Laura Ashley as when you look at the picture on the left it just looks like an ordinary floral design printed onto the fabric, however when you look closer as you can see from the image on the right hand side you can see the embroidery and the amount of detail in this small section let alone the amount in the full cushion. I think the strong amethyst colours work well with the hint of a mustard colour, they both give a warm, positive feel as they work well together. The pattern is quite big however not every flower is the same size, colour or shape which makes the piece more interesting and diverse.
